Multidisciplinary artist Mx. Hyde employs a variety of techniques, including wet molding and 3D printing, to create bold leather works inspired by love, sex, and intimacy.
Leather has been used for crafting for millennia, dating all the way back to the Stone Age. Historically, leather was used for protection but in our modern society it has become more of a luxury. For Mx. Hyde, leather evokes a sense of strength and natural beauty that is representative of the intimate bonds between people. By combining traditional crafting techniques with modern technology, the artist creates captivating molded leather compositions of symbolic objects, shapes, and text. The additional combination of the vibrant dye colors and natural luster of the leather, give the artwork an element of dimensionality that creates a striking visual effect.
A graduate of OCAD University, Mx. Hyde is a queer artist who lives and works in Toronto, Canada.
